A honey-stone colonial dream in the highlands — cobblestones, cathedral spires and a light so good the whole town became an art colony.

San Miguel is almost absurdly pretty: rose-coloured stone streets climbing to the neo-Gothic Parroquia, bougainvillea over every courtyard wall, rooftop bars glowing at sunset, and a high desert light that has drawn painters for a century. It's cultured, walkable and deeply romantic. It's also a magnet for American and Canadian expats and destination weddings, so the 'Mexico' you get is polished, curated and priced for it.
